As the seventh major instalment in the series, though, not to mention the first designed for new console hardware, Assassin's Creed Unity feels like a missed opportunity. Going back to basics at this point may have resulted in a less substantial game than recent years have led us to expect, but it might have delivered a more satisfying one. As it is, mild improvements in traversal and combat are quickly overwhelmed by the creaking systems onto which they have been grafted. Revolutionary Paris is one of the most beautifully realised environments in a series that has had its fair share of them, but the game you play doesn't really do it justice

Assassin's Creed Unity is the best and worst of Assassin's Creed. It's hard not to appreciate everything that it gets right, and you'll have a good time if you can wrangle some friends for co-op, but it's impossible to ignore where Unity falls tragically short.

It's very good, maybe even great in places, but the story's smaller focus has come at the expense of its exquisitely rendered backdrop. Assassin’s Creed Unity leverages the new-generation consoles to add spectacular new sights and successful co-op multiplayer, but in doing so, it’s created some substantial new problems instead of solving the series’ most persistent ones. The scope is stunning, the customization is satisfying, and the multiplayer touches upon some really ambitious ideas. But the lack of a strong main character or interesting take on the Assassin’s Creed universe costs it momentum and excitement, and the persistent control problems are still a thorn in its side. The first truly new-gen Assassin’s Creed game is a gorgeous, entertaining, and successful proof of concept for what lies ahead for the series, though it isn’t what I’d call revolutionary.

That isn't the game Ubisoft made. They made what amounts to a showpiece for a new graphics engine, a game that will initially turn heads but which quickly reveals itself to be frustrating, repetitive, and dull.
I've been happy with Assassin's Creed for a long time. Any series can have an off year, and hopefully Ubisoft will do better the next time around. But this year, for the first time ever, I'm telling you to skip the year's biggest Assassin's Creed.

Inordinately long load times, repeated onscreen notifications, and a couple of hard freezes prove that Unity is a complex game that hasn’t yet had all of its bugs smashed. However, Unity’s frequent missteps are balanced against an astonishing array of engaging content set in a stunning world. Even as I tallied problems, I marveled at the game’s breadth of gameplay and richly realized world. I encourage fans to give Unity a try, and leave your expectations at the door. For both better and worse, Assassin’s Creed is moving in a new direction.

But in the quest to build something that looked and sounded "next generation," Ubisoft Montreal failed to fix the problems that have accumulated over so many annual release. Combined with an uninspiring story, and a long list of considerable technical problems, Unity falls short of the fresh start Assassin's Creed needs.

Revenir aux bases de la série tout en refondant plusieurs de ses mécanismes était un pari audacieux, réussi avec brio par les équipes d'Ubisoft. Paris est non seulement l'une des plus belles villes jamais réalisées pour un open world, mais elle regorge en plus d'activités annexes scénarisées et d'environnements intérieurs accessibles en grande partie sans temps de chargement. Le freerun s'avère également fluide bien qu'encore perfectible, tout comme le système de combat certes plus exigeant mais dont on fait rapidement le tour. Vous n'êtes plus l'Assassin qui fait la loi en ville mais redevenez une lame parmi d'autres au sein d'une foule dense, un point sublimé par le nouveau système d'infiltration nettement plus convaincant. Malgré un scénario sans grand génie et quelques impairs techniques, Assassin's Creed Unity reste un excellent cru qui oriente le gameplay de la série sur le bon chemin et vous occupera de très nombreuses heures devant votre écran.

With Unity, I felt like I was playing Assassin’s Creed 1 and 2 again, with improvements that made sense to the series as opposed to the odd additions that strayed too far from the creed. The entire experience was enrapturing, and the odd skating citizens in crowds were not enough to deter me from thoroughly loving every moment that I spent with Arno. I don’t give Assassin’s Creed Unity a perfect score lightly, but a return to the core of the series and a strengthening of those central pillars makes Unity shine like the glint of a well polished hidden blade and stay true to the creed.

La révolution attendra, mais Assassin's Creed Unity reste une réussite à bien des égards, en écrasant bien des productions sur des points que maîtrise Ubisoft. C'est peut-être là où le bât blesse le plus : la firme française a continué à appuyer sur ce qu'elle savait faire de mieux (le travail sur l'ambiance, la générosité), en transcendant l'expérience grâce à la puissance des consoles nouvelle génération, sans retoucher suffisamment ce qui n'allait pas.
Mais ne vous méprenez pas, Assassin's Creed Unity reste une expérience formidable à bien des égards, ne serait-ce que pour les fantasmes qu'il offre (grimper Notre-Dame vaut tout l'or du Monde) dans un contexte historique hyper bien travaillé et assimilé. Grandiose, mais imparfait. Comme l'Histoire avec un grand H.

Unity is a good step in the series, managing to successfully overhaul most of the core mechanics. However, a lot of polishing is needed in terms of freerunning or stealth to make it all work as intended. The co-op is pretty fun, but be careful of the pretty common frame drops, errors, and annoying missions, as they can really pull you out of the experience.

Assassin’s Creed Unity delivers a stellar narrative and a beautiful backdrop for one of the most palpable historical times in history. With complementary combat tweaks and the addition of co-op, Ubisoft has more than outdone itself in bringing 18th-century Paris to life.

J’ai passé un excellent moment sur cette Assassin’s Creed: Unity. Même si Arno n’a pas la classe ou le développement d’un Ezio, le jeu nous propose un nouveau personnage et une intrigue sur fond de révolution Française tout à fait réussis. Et si la technique a parfois du mal à suivre les ambitions démesurées d’Ubisoft Montréal, nous nous trouvons bien devant un titre majeur graphiquement, qui fera sans aucun doute date dans cette génération de consoles. Ajoutez à cela un gameplay rajeuni, et vous obtenez là un très bon titre, juste terni par des temps de chargement insupportables.

Assassin’s Creed Unity improves on the gameplay, the mechanics, the amount of people in the game and the music compared to earlier AC releases - and it even includes a fun co-op mode. Where it falls flat is on the delivery of the open world. It constantly feels like the PS4 is about to break under the pressure of working too hard. Framerate dips, pop up and ins and odd textures will definitely make this a pass for many gamers. We were still able to enjoy the game despite these short comings, but we can’t help but feel disappointed.

Quitte à contredire Ubisoft et le duc de La Rochefoucauld, Assassin's Creed Unity n'est pas une révolution, mais plutôt une révolte. Une belle série de changements et d'évolutions efficaces - attendues également -, qui donnent à la série le coup de pied au derrière qu'elle méritait. Le free run optimisé pour une exploration encore plus grisante, mais surtout l'infiltration enfin mise à l'honneur et soutenue par une difficulté plus élevée, le gameplay de la saga fait de réelles avancées et se glisse dans des missions intéressantes, très ouvertes et réussies.
Hélas, Ubisoft n'a pas vraiment rempli sa deuxième partie du contrat et nous laisse avec une réalisation hésitante et trop aléatoire, capable du meilleur comme du pire : de splendides scènes et des paysages à couper le souffle côtoient des bugs vulgaires et crasseux. L'I.A. des ennemis vient également troubler le déroulement de certaines missions et ternir l’exigence d’un gameplay pourtant prometteur. Mais il faudrait avoir perdu la raison pour ne pas se laisser emporter par l'ambiance et cette aire de jeu hors du commun, d’autant que Unity regorge de “vraies” choses à faire au-delà de ses missions principales, du simple larcin pour gagner quelques sous jusqu’à un mode coop dense et vraiment enthousiasmant. Si ce premier Assassin’s Creed nouvelle génération n’atteint donc pas les sommets comme on pouvait le rêver, il témoigne d'une vraie remise en question et prouve que la série a ce qu'il faut pour reprendre sa couronne.

) , mais ils ont en quelques sorte réadapté le pouvoir du néon pour lui donner un second soufle dans ce First Light. Eh ben c'est reussi, le combat au corp à corp est beaucoup plus explosif et jouissif, on peut facilement enchaîner 3 enemies à la suite en une fraction de seconde.
