A new picture of the Playstation 3 controller appears to show that the next-gen joystick is a little bigger than a credit card. I’m hoping this is some sort of funky trick of perspective, because that sounds like it could be too small to be comfortable.

One thing that makes me sort of doubt the picture is that the hand holding the controller is swathed in some sort of terry cloth glove that makes it hard to determine what size the hand really is. The other issue is that if the controller is really that small, than the PS3, shown behind the controller, is a lot smaller too.

A member in our forums, ThatDude, has shown the way to tell what version firmware the PSP has before you buy it. The technique is simple and has been verified by many people to be accurate.

On the back of the PSP box by the barcodes, there will be either an ‘A’, ‘B’, or nothing at all located below “120V”. If you do not have a letter that means it was purchased sometime near the US release. Having the letter ‘A’ means that the firmware is a 1.50, and seeing a letter ‘B’ there means 1.51. Now you won’t have to open the box to know your firmware, and most people are willing to find you a PSP box with the letter ‘A’ or no letter at all.

Socals from Globware.com made an interactive demo/screensaver for the PSP called Binary v0.1. We received an email from him earlier talking about it and said “I also created a demo/screensaver/simulator called Binary about a week ago but didn't really consider it
ews-worthy with all the new neat stuff coming out so i just it slide” followed by “I was mainly just writing some test code to learn new things about the PSP.”

Usage instructions he provided are:

– L1 = Remove Strand
– R1 = Add Strand
– SQUARE = Scroll Display Modes (0=Clear/1=Title/2=Title+Stats)
– TRIANGLE = Toggle AUTO/FREE Mode
– START = Exit to PSP
– D-PAD UP = Increase Strand Speed
– D-PAD Down = Decrease Strand Speed
When in FREE Mode
– Analog Stick = Control all Strands

Modes:
AUTO = Strands move themselves
FREE = You control their direction and speed
