Interview Yoshio Sakamoto
Yoshio Sakamoto : 'But after all, now that we have introduced a game called Wario Ware, we cannot follow the same track - if we are going to make a Wario Ware II for example, that's got to be uniquely different from Wario Ware I for us to live up to people's expectations of us.'
Yoshio Sakamoto : 'I personally don't think that R&D1 should always make videogames. For example we can go back to basics and sometimes make toys, or some new gadgets, which Nintendo has never challenged.'
Yoshio Sakamoto : 'We don't know how well that device is appreciated in Europe here at this point, but if it's quite a unique product it's a shame Nintendo didn't come up with that kind of idea. Having said that, we can always try some new challenge; I think we can come up with something more unique than the Eye-Toy all the time. We really want to be the number one R&D team.'
Yoshio Sakamoto : 'Information on the next handheld is rather limited, though I'd love to tell you more! I was not personally involved myself in the hardware configuration of the Game Boy, but I know that Nintendo is always working on the next generation of systems, be it handheld or console game machines. As for the next handheld system, we are exchanging views from the creator's point of view and we are having a series of discussions and meetings about what kind of technologies should be there to be included on the next generation handheld machine. That's about all I can tell you right now.'
Yoshio Sakamoto : 'I think my involvement with Metroid Prime II is like my involvement with the first one - I am advising them as to what kind of flavour they have to adhere to, and the kind of storylines possible - Retro Studios comse up with the story and I say: 'Yes, it's the kind of story that's consistent with previous Metroid games' or else: 'No, it's got to be changed like this'. Of course, whenever Retro is working on the Metroid games I need to supervise; I'm the person who receives the reports, to find out what's going on and how the title is progressing.'
