Rare sales hit 100 million

100 million is the total number of software units sold by Rare since 1995. 'We only recently passed this milestone, so we thought we might as well run a bit of a news story on it. The result of releasing more than 100 titles across systems ranging from NES to Xbox 360 does seem like something worth mentioning, even if a couple of those titles were Taboo and Sesame Street 123 (everyone has to eat, you know). Recent assistance in achieving the 100 million figure has come from the likes of Perfect Dark Zero (over 1.5m units to date), Kameo : Elements of Power and Viva Pinata (approaching 1m apiece). With Banjo Kazooie : Nuts & Bolts and two new Viva Pinata titles on Xbox 360 and DS set to launch in the coming months, plus of course all the other intriguing projects further down the line that we're too wicked and calculating to tell you about, we don't anticipate a dramatic sales downturn any time soon.' says Rare.

I wonder how many of these sales are in part thanks to Nintendo. Rare made DKC 1, 2 and 3, Killer Instinct 1 and 2, Goldeneye, Perfect Dark, DKC64, Blast Corpse, Banjo Kazooie and Tooie, Diddy Kong Racing and probably more on Nintendo consoles.

Sad that Eternal Darkness is not one of the games that contributed a large number to that figure; I consider it Game Cube's most underrated title and one of the most underrated games ever.

Eternal Darkness wasn't by Rare. It was by Silicon Knights. Conker's Bad Fur Day was in my opinion Rare's best and most underrated Nintendo 64 game.
