GC2006: Next-Gen Soccer NOT Xbox 360 Exclusive
Microsoft announced at their GC 2006 Press Conference that the Xbox 360 would be the only place to play next generation soccer games for the next 12 months. Apparently, this has made both Xbox 360 soccer game developers - Konami and EA - not too thrilled.
We've heard from both companies, and from what we've been told, this is not the case. Today during our interview with Winning Eleven's Senior Producer Shingo Seabass Takasuka Konami's Senior Manager made it clear that Konami's deal with Microsoft was until the end of calendar year 2006, not the reported 12 months that Microsoft touted.
EA has also told Game Informer that their announcement is also not true in the case with FIFA games.
So basically each company is planning to release either a PS3 or Wii footie title before this supposed 12 month time period ends. It's not shocking Microsoft would want to make such an announcement in Germany, as soccer in Europe is the country's most popular sport. But it looks like Microsoft jumped the gun as both publishers are denying that this will hold up.
