"FAIRBANKS — Dressed like an adorable little Minnie Mouse, 4-year-old Dylinn Christensen sat on the tailgate of a truck in a church parking lot last Sunday and passed out Halloween candy. “Come get some candy,” she chanted, over and over again. The little girl was happily Trunk-or-Treating. photo:formal dresses online australia This is the newest rendition of trick-or-treating designed to keep children safe during the Halloween holiday, but still allow them to collect plenty of candy. Dylinn was at Zion Lutheran Church off Davis Road, celebrating Halloween with a parking lot full of people. Although it is new to me, trunk-or-treating is apparently not really a totally new thing. You can google it and get all kinds of information about how it works. Trunk-or-treating is generally community-sponsored. People gather and park their cars and trucks in a large parking lot. They open their trunks, or lift their hatchbacks, and from there, distribute candy. They usually decorate the backs of the vehicles. They also often dress in costumes. On Sunday, after church at Zion Lutheran Church, about 20 parishioners gathered in a side parking lot and opened the trunks of their vehicles. Many trunks were delightfully decorated. One trunk even had a string of holiday lights. “It was really nice,” said Dylinn’s mom Erica Newton. Generally, Dylinn’s parents take her to trick-or-treat at individual homes of people they know. She doesn’t go door-to-door to the houses of strangers. At Sunday’s Trunk-or-Treat, Dylinn knew all the other children and many of the families. Not everyone passed out candy. Some people passed out mittens and hats. One family passed out popcorn. It became a very social two-hour event. “It wasn’t like you would go to a truck once and not go back,” said Newton. “Dylinn went around a couple times.” Because Dylinn’s family was new to Trunk-or-Treating, her truck wasn’t decorated. So finally, she just sat on the tailgate and like a carnival hawker, advertised her free candy. “This was fun for us this year,” said Newton. “It ended up being a really good time.” Next Halloween, they’ll work on decorating their vehicle. read more:www.marieaustralia.com/formal-dresses"
