E3 2011 — MYSTERIES TO UNFOLD : PART 1
So it's almost that time of the year again, feeling great?
Yes, E3 2011 is among us, your most favorite console companies such as Sony, Nintendo, Microsoft, have a few surprises in store for you.
I made this editorial because I'm expecting some nice innovative technologies from those companies, as well as a few nifty surprises from several publishers ranging from Square-Enix to Atlus, and beyond.
Atlus
With the release of the Japanese version of the game called Catherine, and its upcoming immigration to North America, it seems Atlus, rather, Team Persona has a lot of free time on their hands. Taking that into consideration along with the fact that a new Persona has been rumored to be in the making for a few years, it's safe to say that we will be welcoming the fifth installment of the Shin Megami Tensei: Persona series very soon, and here's hoping that the announcement will be made at this year’s E3.
Elsewhere, some have rumored that the game will feature older protagonists to better accommodate the mature theme the franchise has come to bear and push, while others are expecting a new gameplay element that will enhance the experience due to fact that the producer of the project (Shoji Meguro) has hinted of a few changes that would benefit the players. If Catherine's multi-platform release is a sign of things to come, then there may be a chance Xbox 360 users might have the privilege to experience a Shin Megami Tensei: Persona on a Microsoft console for the first time.
Though, Atlus seems to have lost me whence they decided to release a rehash of a successful game previously launched on the DS, and up for grabs with the handheld's successor. I don't understand the motive behind this, sure you can say Atlus is no stranger to remakes, but literally re-releasing a game that is fresh out of the womb with slight modifications can sometimes be perplexing to an individual. On the 3DS no less I expect three dimensional graphics and not sprites.
There is definitely some mishandling that is happening. Could it be the executives over at Atlus? Did they just want to have a game with their name on it out side by side the hottest new handheld on the market? I think so, I definitely won't be buying the overclocked version of Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor on the 3DS since I am content with my original version, thank you!
However, I do monitor certain allegations on the web, and one in particular caught my eye, it stated that "Atlus is rehashing Devil Survivor for the sole purpose of financing Shin Megami Tensei: Persona 5 and everyone should be buying it to help out", well I'd love to believe that it's true folks, but it's just wishful thinking. A publisher like Atlus is wealthy and can finance its own projects, then again, if all else fails it can mooch off of its filthy rich parents: Index Holdings.
Nevertheless, you’ve got Dark Souls, rumored to be the sequel of the profitable Demon's Souls, an awesome yet difficult to some masterpiece of an RPG. Nothing of substance has been released regarding this title, but you can expect [strike] Atlus [/strike] Namco Bandai to at least hold the possibility of announcing a title of this relevance at one of the most prestigious game stages in the world (besides the Tokyo Game Show of course) this June.
Square-Enix
Oh boy, it looks like Square-Enix is going to have a host of games for many people to enjoy, we can start with the most notorious in [...]
