Sony vient d'annoncer lors de l'E3 2003 qu'une PlayStation Portable était en cours de développement dans les laboratoires de recherche de la firme. Cette portable, nommée PSP, utilise des mini CD de 1.8 GO, compatible MPEG 4, écran TFT LCD 480 x 272, 3D Polygon/NURBS, port USB, port carte mémoire et batterie au lithium. SCEI fournira des outils de développement à partir de l'automne 2003. La PSP disposera d'un port Memory Stick et d'un port USB 2.0 pour permettre une connectivité avec la PlayStation 2 et d'autres machines.
